Yes, I had chickens. They were my beginner birds. I forgot how many I had, bit it was definitely more than 5...

I wish I could keep a hen chicken
There is a story that's part of my family folklore, my mom had a great aunt who had this hen who was treated like a little Queen.
When the children went to visit this lady, the hen was always sitting on her own armchair, on top of a red cushion.
I guess eccentricity runs in the family, especially from my mother's side lol

I remember a cartoon about a farmer who wanted more eggs. So, he put the hen in a box with a lightbulb, and turned it on twice a day. So, he got two eggs a day. Then, he tried for four. That worked too. Then, he just started turning it on and off every few seconds. The eggs just came rolling out. Then, he opened the door, the hen came out, and she was skin and bones.

I had chickens for 3 months. We bought a rooster on the 3rd month and our neighbor complained to the city of Miami. One morning, we got a call from a lady asking me if we had chickens. I answered yes and they right away came and told us it was against the law to keep chickens. They said we had one week to give them away, or else we would have to pay a big fine.

It was really sad. When we got to the farm to give them away, we opened the trunk and there was an egg. It was her fifth egg. I took the egg and put it in a incubator and it was the only egg that survived. I had to assist hatch it.

We had 1 rooster, 2 hens, one of the hens had 7 babies that we bought together with her. We had 4 yellow chicks, one black one, 2 other ones that were the same age as the black one.

There are a couple breeds that lay a egg every day...they are egg laying machines! The most popular are the white leghorns. Ever since we've moved out into the country, we've had chickens. I don't know if you guys are familiar with the term "broody", but that's when a chciken gets in the mood when she wants to hatch her eggs. I was in the process of doing this. It takes 3 weeks for chicks to hatch, and this Memorial Day was the hatch date. My 4 yr. Old brother took the eggs from under my hen and put them in the fridgerator! I was making scrambled eggs this morning and cracked one of the eggs to find a chilled-to-death chick inside I was so looking forward to the hatching date for these chicks....I mustve cried for an hour this morning.

Your brother sounds really cruel! How old is he?

He's only 4.......he seemed so sorry....I don't think he did it on purpose. It was still sad though. None of my brothers would EVER do somthing like that on purpose. Mom just told him to collect the eggs and he got the wrong ones.

Oh i see! I thought you meant your 4 year old hen laid her fertile egg and your older brother did that. The period after the word "year" and the capitalized "o" confused me, sorry

Scratch that. I had my chickens for only 3 months. My memory is fading away with them and is being overlapped with cockatiels. My chickens laid an egg every other day. They just didn't lay an egg when they were new.
