My mom walked in my room a few days ago. She said she was fed up with the birds. She said I needed to get rid of one. I tried desperately to talk her out of it, to no avail. So I had to find someone on craigslist, sell her for 50.00, and fill my bed with tears.

I can sorta relate since I lost 3 birdd last month, and let me tell you, it does hurt a lot!

Was there a reason? Our mothers act very similar. Im so sorry again. Im so upset.

I'm so sorry that you had to give her up. You need to be very careful about bird damage and dirt in the future so your mother doesn't get too annoyed about them.

I'm so sorry Hannah. All we can hope for was that she went to a good home.

Thanks sooo much all of you. I wish I was an adult, so my mom couldn't tell me to get rid of the birds :( She said she's sorry but its just part of life......I can't believe her!

Losing a pet because they just don't live as long as you do is part of life. When an adult makes you get rid of a pet unnecessarily that's not "just part of life", that's a decision that they made when they could have decided to do something else. I can sympathize with your mom being upset because the birds destroyed the windowsill, because property damage isn't good and it's not particularly easy to fix. But I don't think that making you get rid of a bird was the best solution to the problem. There are other ways that you can reduce the chance of future problems, and other ways that you can punish a kid for not watching the pets carefully enough if that seems necessary. Pets are like family members and it's devastating to lose one.

Oh, I remember so well looking forward to being grown up so I could make my own decisions.

It really is good when it happens. Hang in there!

I have a daughter (grown up now), and I am happy I was able to avoid the mistakes my own mother made when I was raising her.

I have also gained more compassion for my mother as I have gotten older. Life was hard for her. A lot of the stuff that she did really shouldn't have happened that way. But, she had her own problems and really didn't have a particularly happy life.

Despite everything that happened when I was young, I feel that, overall, I have been having a happy life.
