Lucy has been quite vocal this morning. Her vocalizations have become a bit unusual lately though. Instead of the usual chirps, it sounds a bit more "chatty". It's not exactly "whistly", but it's not "squawky", either. It's as if she's trying to sing, but she doesn't quite know how to do it. All i know though, is that it's completely adorable.

It's not constant like a male, though she did it every few minutes, and it only lasted seconds, each time. I tried recording it, but of course, as soon as I turn the camera on, let alone point it to her (even from a distance), she shuts up. She seems happy though, so I'm not objecting.

Some hens will sing occasionally and some will even sing a lot. I get a serenade from Mims once every few months.

Spike used to sing pretty frequently but it was NOT a music lovers dream lol. The first time she did it I thought she was in pain!

In pain? Was it that bad?

Lucy's melodies don't sound that bad. She's pretty quiet about it, and it sounds pretty cute. I wish she would do it more often, though it does sound a little monotone. Must've got that from her father. Seems to be quite the "daddy's girl" (ironic that it's me, who bought her).

Be grateful she's quiet. You don't want this to happen to you right?

Maybe I should be grateful it's quiet. Is Jaid singing to his FOOT, in the third one? Cockatiels are so silly.

Pecky used to have quite the repertoire. Some of his whistles would be high pitch, then he would repeat what sounded like "pretty birdie" over and over again really fast, and he would also sing the charge theme that's played at baseball games (well, the ending part). While it was cute, it was LOUD, which is what led to my parents' decision to give him away. He learned it from another cockatiel we had named "Piper", and for some reason, they would both stick their beaks in the air while they sang it.

Never seen a cockatiel do anything like it, before.

I would be fine if Lucy's singing was constant, as long as it stayed at it's volume. I've only heard her sing twice. I guess she was feeling really happy, those mornings.

Hm, interesting. And hilarious.

It reminds me of Luke (Pecky's "brother", as I call him), who would sing to his brother, by leaning over him, and lifting his foot. The behaviors seem somewhat similar. I've seen other videos of cockatiels singing while raising their foot. Maybe it's one of those behaviors that only certain cockatiels do (like using the foot to hold things).
