Thanks guys!

Something weird. I don't know why I am wanting a new bird NOW? I just realized that i bought Moon last year on Nov. 3. I bought him on Sunday but this year it's going to be on Monday. Am I the only one who has bird cravings on the exact time of each year?

No your not I get them quite often, but I know I cant manage any more so its just a dream for me...wish I was 20 years younger, I'd have a lot of different birds then... as you get older, you have to think what will happen to my birds if I die?
There is only my daughter to call on and she is in the USA.... working... so Ill just dream, you have them....LOL OK?

Brunch, thanks for sharing your struggles and good for you for everything you are doing for yourself.

I will share briefly my story. On 7/7/2012 my oldest son died suddenly. It was the day after I had brought my husband home from hospital where he had surgery for brain cancer. On 9/5/2012 my husband died. That Nov my mom got sick and I was with her daily during hospital and nursing home stays. My mom died 4/5/2013. After her death I began the grieving process. Grief gets in every cell of your body. I ended up very depressed. I didn't care about anything. I stopped going to church. I rarely cooked. I sat in my chair and slept a lot. I am doing a lot better now but I still get a day occasionally when I sleep a lot.

That's a tragic story and I'm glad you're doing better now. Having pets is very helpful. They can give us uncomplicated love, and when we have someone or something to take care of it helps take us out of ourselves.

TMI ALERT. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

I freely admit that my new crazy bird lady kick is my version of a midlife crisis and how I am coping with the realization that my baby-making days are done. We only have one child and even though I fell pregnant with him literally the first month we tried, I've never been pregnant since and now he's 10 and no longer cuddly and I'm 40 and no longer, uh, you know, prime baby making material. ;) (note: I love my kiddo and I'm so proud of the man he's (too quickly!) growing into but I think all mothers miss their little babes and I'm no exception)

So, yeah, my little birdies are filling a weird little void in my life and I think that's straight up A-OK. However, I do think there is huge value in knowing when to say No because I know that I'd love to just keep buying new baby birds endlessly but obviously that would quickly become unhealthy. So I guess, as a mom and as someone who struggles with depression/anxiety myself, I'd want you to ask yourself if you're wanting a new bird for the exciting newness and cuteness of it or if you truly feel that adding another bird to your flock would add quality to your life and to your flock. If it's about the newness, that's OK, but it does mean you need to take a larger step back to make sure that's not the only reason, you know?

I don't know if I'm making sense or if any of this is helpful but at the very least, I just want to let you know that I am impressed with your self insight and maturity. I still struggle with that constantly!

Delaware girl, your story is truly tragic and I am so sorry that happened to you and your family. So very unfair. I am glad that you are getting better. You are a very strong person and I admire that.

Hi, Shiri.
Thank you for sharing.
My aunt lost her husband, both parents, and her brother in the space of a year and a half when she was thirty. She went into a deep depression. However, she recovered and was a major support in my life. Such a wonderful person. Unfortunately, she died a month ago from Alzheimers. She was 78. I miss her so much.
