The American Cockatiel Society asked me if I'd like to run for the ACS position of Vice President of Breeding, Management, & Research. I said OK. I had to join ACS in order to be eligible because I wasn't even a member of the society - I'd just been hanging out on their Facebook forum for a while. They want me for my knowledge of mutation genetics lol.

I thought it was pretty funny that they would invite someone who isn't a show breeder and wasn't even a member. I haven't been on the forum all that long either, a few months versus other people who have been involved in ACS for years. There are a couple of other people in the group who are knowledgeable about genetics, but at least one of them apparently isn't interested in the job. The other one is an official 'expert' who publishes in a variety of magazines etc but her behavior is.... quirky, and I don't think she'd win any popularity contests over there. Some of her information sounds pretty iffy to me, and I think the conversations I've had with her helped my approval rating with the leaders over there.

You are such a rich source of knowledge, and without any doubt the person who taught me the most about tiels (which, I admit, is not much lol but I'm still learning )

Hooray! I'm very happy for you and I'm not surprised. You deserve it. I remember when I joined TC, after a while of being on there, I was surprised you weren't the administrator.

Thanks everyone! As for TC, I didn't WANT to be the administrator so I took myself out of the running right at the start. The way the other mods operated was too different from the way I work, and I couldn't get them to change their style. The last thing I needed was more responsibility without any real power to control the situation.

BTW I still lurk over there sometimes, and a few days ago someone asked what happened to Michelle (meaning enigma731, the mod with the outstanding medical knowledge). The reply was that she was very busy with the NCS (National Cockatiels Society) Facebook forum. This is incorrect. There IS a TC refugee named Michelle who is a moderator on NCS, but it's a different person. As far as I know, Medical Michelle isn't active on any bird forums right now, but I know how to reach her if anyone needs her advice.

I don't remember, it's been at least a week since I saw it. The real reason Medical Michelle left was because of an argument over pointless rules. I think NCS Michelle left because of the general oppressive atmosphere, not because of any specific problem.
