I hate time around 4th of July. So much trouble for pets because of the noise of fireworks. My birds just had another night fright (without any visible reasons) so I am anticipating them to be having hard times when fireworks start shooting.

It'll help if you leave the light on in the room until you're sure the fireworks are finished. Playing the radio or TV will help filter out the sound of the explosions too.

I am sure people will start shooting a few days earlier, so tiels probably will be accustomed with the noise by the 4th of July

If you're at home during the 4th you can always sit with them and keep them calm.

the problem is that most likely I will be away - taking my daughter to upstate NY for her camp that starts on the 5th.

I can't even imagine how much panic any kind of alarm would cause if sounded during the night... Smoke alarm in the house or carbon monoxide alarm, etc. Of course it's better to be scared than to die from the smoke, but still - what do you do about all this stuff? I am recalling our smoke alarm had bad batteries and went off at night and it wasn't fun even for us humans (we didn't have birds back then)

I really don't know what to do with the birds when I have to be gone in July - my husband stays home but he is not able to manage the birds. A few nights I was coming late and asking him to dim the lights and remove all the food except for food inside the cage... sometimes this trick forces them into the cage (I think food part more than the light part LOL) but it didn't work. They all were falling asleep out of the cage when it was getting late and I was not home.
