Piper has taken to getting in Winter's face, talking to her, beak to beak. They both seem to like the toys in the cage. Winter especially likes the disco ball, which hangs from the ceiling.

I have decided that they need more room. It's not that they seem unhappy, it's just that the cage isn't that big. And, they are spending all of their time in it due to Winter having clipped wings and my having cats. I hope this will change in time. So, for now, I bought parts to add a second level to the Vision cage. Wow, did they arrive quickly from Hagen! I had barely pressed enter to confirm the order and the UPS guy was at the front door.

This morning Piper accidentally got out when I was cleaning the budgie cage. He went right over to Emma. A little bit of a fracas ensued, with Silver chasing him away with open beak. It took me a while to sort things out and get everyone back where s/he belongs. Fortunately, there wasn't any mating.

I know it is better for birds to have a longer cage rather than a higher cage, but this is the best I can do in my small house. When my brother comes over this weekend, he will help me add on the top level to the cage.

"In your face" is a good thing for budgies. Take this budgie annoying this GCC for instance:
phpBB [video]

Beck and Poppy do it to each other when they're doing their happy dance.

That budgie is very annoying to that GCC but so funny at the same time.

That interaction is potentially dangerous to the budgie but I have to agree that it's hilarious.

That's a very funny video. I get the impression that the budgie is trying to get the GCC off of that spot on the cage. I'm amazed how the GCC just sits there and takes it.

I don't know why they call them Green Cheek. The cheeks don't look green to me.

Piper used to do that to Silver when they were all caged together.

Budgies are very extraverted. They don't seem to have any self esteem issues.

That's a different mutation of a GCC.

This is a normal mutation of a greencheek conure. The cheeks are green.
