That is SO overpriced. That's why I don't buy birds from big chain pet stores. That and a few other reasons.

I bought my sun conure for a discounted price of $125. $600 is insane!

Buying direct from the breeder is always a lot cheaper than buying through a pet store.

Last summer I had to rescue one cockatiel while traveling to a foreign country. He was in very bad conditions (very small cage) and they said he was there for 3 years. It wasn't the cage that shocked me, but how long he stayed there. The price was about the same as at Petco here is US - about $130. I just couldn't get that bird out of my head. I found a local breeder who agreed to accept him locally and bought him (there would be no way to bring him here to live with me - too far, and very complicated traveling). Later the breeder told me that the tiel didn't eat for almost 3 days in the new place because she gave him different food bowls (the store "kindly" sold him with all his "belongings"). Accidentally, her daughter offered him food in his old awful bowl and he ate for a long time. He was very hungry! I hope he is doing OK. I also hope that the store learned a lesson that this kind of birds for this price don't get sold in their location.
