It's good that you're thinking about what's best for him, and also good that you're not making a hasty decision. This is a good first step, and time will tell whether he'll continue to make progress or if this is a one-time event. When he does come out of the cage make it as rewarding as possible for him, with treats and his star toy. If he has fun when he's out of the cage he's likely to do it more often. Don't try to push him for step-ups or interaction right now, just let him figure out that it's safe and fun to be out of the cage. Once that's well established you can work on taking things further.

I think he had fun. He played with a mirror and landed on Jaid's back.

I remember watching that video a while ago. It was so funny. That cockatiel sounds like a pig. Oh Beck...

I'm a little confused. Does Beck come out of the cage before, or was this the first time. I saw a video of him out of his cage before. You can see the video here:
He doesn't seem too uncomfortable there. I'm not trying to judge anyone, I'm just a little confused about the situation.

That video was hilarious.
This means that the picture in your signature of Beck on Jaid's back wasn't just Photoshop. It was you predicting the future!

No, he comes out. But not very often. I think I figured it out though. He got depressed when he knocked his flight feathers out in the night fright. He is completely grounded in that video. Poppy only lost one side, Speck lost both.
He came out today, played with a mirror, bothered the cockatiels, and overall acted happy.
Yes, he is the boss of the flock. I know it seems like Jaid, but Speck has the most experience age wise. I know how he thinks. He likes western saddle back riding.

I'm thinking about this again.
I don't mean to bring drama back in but I'm doubting my care again. I just feel odd to have a pet that practically hates me being in the same room with him. I feel selfish keeping them, but even more for not wanting to let them go emotionally, to somewhere where they would be happier. I wish I could give them somewhere with lots of budgies since they are scared of everything else with a shadow.

I just don't want them to live their life in a cage and drop dead in the thing that held them for years.
