Jan, Barbara and I have shared with each other the story of how we got our birds under general chit chat. Thought I would start a thread here.

So please tell us how you got your birds and how you got interested in them.

I had a budgie when I was growing up. He was a lutino and talked. He was a birthday or Christmas present when I was about 8 years old. However, he was kept in the dining room, at the insistence of my parents. I was allowed to take him into my bedroom to play with him.

When I moved out at nineteen years old, I didn't feel I should take him with me. He was the family's bird as much as mine.

A year or so later, there was a small fire in the house, and he died of smoke inhalation.

I lived in apartments for many years, and was not allowed to have birds.

Three years ago I moved into my own small house and got two budgies, Piper and Snowy, in September, 2013. They were not as friendly as I wanted. So, in November 2013 I got a cockatiel (Emma) from a pet store. She was also not as friendly as I wanted, and hard to tame. So, in March of this year I got a cockatiel from a specialty bird store. He came from a "bin of cockatiels" that were just finishing being hand fed. I was able to pick each of them up. I picked Silver because he seemed so calm on my finger. He just sat there looking at me, like "Oh, it's you!" He has been a wonderful bird.

Emma and Piper fell in love and spend most of their time together.

Snowy was a very noisy budgie and a bit aggressive. I gave him to a neighbor, and he lives there with another budgie.

So, we are all fine now. Piper and Emma are in love, and Silver and I are in love.

They are so cute, and apparently have a loving mommy.
