Please help, I was at school and when I got home my brother said he saw Pickle fly into the door, anyway I ran to the aviary and found Pickle on the ground. I went in and Pickle didn't fly away so I picked her up, I looked at her and put her near the food, she still hasn't flew yet. I want to take her to the vet but I have no cage and is not tame. Please help It is not a broken wing.

Please get back soon. :crying:

It probably isn't a broken wing. The biggest danger is head injury (concussion) and there probably isn't much that the vet can do about that. Just let her rest quietly and keep her warm. Putting a towel across one end of the cage and shining a lamp on it so the heat from the bulb goes into the cage is a good way to do this. Putting a heating pad under half the cage works too, but a lot of heating pads shut off automatically after a certain period of time so watch out for that. You only heat half the cage so the bird can move to the cool side if it starts getting too warm.

Giving electrolytes can be VERY helpful for birds who are sick or hurt. If you have any Pedialyte or Gatorade on hand you can use that, or you can make your own using simple recipes that are available online: http://www.webmd.com/hw-popup/rehydrati ... ar=hw86827 The bird can drink it, or if she's not drinking you can soak some seeds in it for a few minutes and then offer her the seeds to eat on your fingertip.

I hope she's feeling better now!

one of my birds had a concussion. She wasn't reacting much on anything, was just sitting in trans. On the way to the vet she was drooping one wing, that scared me a lot. When back into the house, I kept her caged and covered. I remember she vomited once or twice. However, in about 2 days she got all better, perked up, and wanted to eat and fly.
Hope Pickle recovers

If you can, don't encourage her to fly until she can do it better. If she's flying badly there's a risk that she might crash again. But I'm glad that she's feeling better, and hopefully she'll be back to normal soon!

Pickle is so much better now, I came into the aveiry and she showed off her flying! She is such a show-off. :roffle:
She is tame as well, she must have liked me helping her and seems to like cuddles....and playing mess up my hair game. :bigsmile100:
She seems to like pooping on my jumper every now and then.
I love her though :parrotputer:

One of the things thats difficult about owning a budgie is when something happens to them. Our current bird Snowy, flew into a door and hurt himself badly. We called three different vets and none could help us. We end up nursing him for half an hour in our hands. This kept him warm I guess, while he recovered from shock. After a while he started riggling, so we had to put him back in the cage. He immediately fell over onto his back and was lying on the ground with his legs in the air. Very distressing.

The down side to having a tame bird is they crap on you ALL the time. At least budgie poop is small, but its still yuk. :bigsmile100:
